Acrylics can be used like both Oils and Watercolor, so methods you learn in these mediums can be applied for the most part to Acrylics. The reason studying the different genres is important because many still life or landscapes contain figures and vice versa so you don’t want to limit yourself by only studying one to the exclusion of all others in your training. There is nothing worse than seeing a painting by an accomplished landscape artist for e.g. who suddenly tries to incorporate a figure in their work. You can tell immediately if they have never made a study of the figure no matter how good they may be as a landscape painter and it brings down the quality of the work immensely.

Eventually you will favor one medium and genre more than the others.
