Lesson 5: Beginning a Painting: Dynamic Symmetry

The Flute Player

Commonly referred to as Secret, even Sacred, Geometry there is an understructure of geometry to great paintings. The trained painter knows this as Dynamic Symmetry.

In this short video I discuss my thinking process when embarking upon a painting.

Portrait Painting | John Singer Sargent's Vernon Lee

Sargent Vernon Lee

Not just another watch me paint Zoom course!

In this interactive three-session course you will be copying John Singer Sargent's magnificent portrait of his close friend Vernon Lee.

Working on an 11x14" canvas or panel you will learn how to draw with the brush by first striking the arabesque and blocking-in ... just like Sargent did.

Next is the Ebauche (the initial dead-coloring- in) that is subsequently built-up and rendered with sculptural, bravura brush strokes in a guided, step-by-process.

This course is designed for oil painting, but you can also use acrylic.
